You are the Role Model

My father is a World Class Dad. He raised his children by example. He knew that we were watching him more than we were listening to him. He taught me the most important thing about being a man and a father: You are the Role Model.
In our world today, young people are searching for models. They desperately seek individuals who show them what is important - not by what they say, but by what they do. I love the expression “I can’t hear what you’re saying because your actions are speaking so loudly.” If you struggle with making the right choices for yourself, do it for others. Do it for those that are watching you.
We are all influencers. I tell overwhelmed parents that they can’t possibly watch five kids, but their five kids are watching them. Lead from the front. Live your life like it was a video instruction manual for those around you. Be mindful of how you speak, the choices that you make and the way that people feel when they are around you. Do you strive to make situations better? Search for solutions? Offer assistance?
My Dad is an excellent example of how a man should act toward his children, and now to his grandchildren. He has always tried to be a good husband, friend and leader. He has taught his children about faith, friendships and hard work – through actions, as well as words.
And, ultimately, he instilled in us the desire to do our best and focus on progression, not perfection. In the end, the only thing that we can perfect is our effort.
Thanks, Dad…Happy Father’s Day.
