“I’m quitting exercising. I feel fit enough.”

Have you ever heard this statement from anybody?  Think about it.  You must have heard this from someone at least once.  Right?

The beneficial activities we do for our health are additive.  This is a key concept to understand for those people looking to understand what wellness means and how to get there.  Beneficial things add together, just like detrimental ones.  Positives and negatives are cumulative, meaning that they add up over time, and they diminish over time.

As a wellness doctor and health coach, I have a continuous stream of conversations with patients about what they should and shouldn’t be doing to maximize their health.  Many of these conversations regard movement, fitness and exercise.  But I can say convincingly that, of all of the discussions I have had with hundreds, if not thousands of patients in our office, I have never heard the phrase above from anyone.  Ever.

Why is this?  Don’t tell me that EVERYONE is too busy, too stressed out, or doesn’t have enough time to exercise.  Surely someone has stopped working out because they are just happy with how fit they are at the present moment, don’t want to get more any fit, and have decided to stop.  Clearly, this statement is a ridiculous one.  When you stop exercising regularly, what happens?  You progressively lose what you have gained and become less fit over time.

So why would it be a remotely novel concept that I choose to get adjusted regularly, and will do so for the rest of my life?  Fortunately, this is an equally easy question.

In fact, when you understand chiropractic, there is only one sensible answer.  Chiropractic care delivers its true benefit - a healthy spine and nerve system, when it is applied systematically, so that it is cumulative.  Just like exercise.

This is known as corrective chiropractic care.

Corrective chiropractic adjustments add together, just like workouts or exercise.  Energy applied toward getting fit, or toward optimizing the health of your spine and nerve system, becomes cumulative over time.

Your body is a machine - but an intelligent, living, biological one.  It will respond to the positive stresses and become stronger if you choose to apply them properly.  Just as it will weaken in the face of cumulative negative stresses.   Or, just as it will weaken when you choose to apply no stresses at all.

Thank you for choosing to get your spine checked regularly, and for choosing to pursue a better way to better health.

See you at the office.
